Airline ‘Wildcat’ Strikes – New Passenger Compensation Rules

Airline passengers affected by ‘Wildcat’ strikes could be entitled to compensation, due to a recent ruling by the European Court of Justice.

The legal body has ruled that travellers affected by airline staff calling in sick en masse, are entitled to financial settlements and reimbursement.

The decision was taken when a passenger took TUIfly to court in Germany after staff decided to take sick leave for a week, following a restructuring announcement.

Previously airlines could refuse to pay compensation, should these incidents occur. However that has now changed and leading legal figures warn that this could open the floodgates and lead to thousands of new claims and cases.
