UK Terror Threat: How To Keep Corporate Travellers Safe

After the awful Manchester Bombing this week, British Prime Minister Theresa May has raised the terror threat to critical level. What does this mean for business travellers in the region?

The raise of terror level means that police and the government believe another attack or act of terrorism is not just likely but possibly imminent. It has been revealed that as a result of the move, there will be increased police and army presence at large concerts, venues which attract crowds and popular sporting events.

It is also expected that there will be increased security at airports and train stations.

Despite recent events, life must go on and business travel continues, however companies need to consider the effect of travel on their employees at this time. A recency study by the Association of Corporate Travel Executives and Business Traveller found that 67 per cent of travellers said that there is a psychological effect on either them or their families when travelling to a region where they may not feel safe.

At Beyond Business Travel we work closely with our travellers to help minimise risk and keep our clients safe, no matter where they are in the world. Here are some steps we take before, during and after a corporate travel trip.

Prepare Well Before Travel

Preparations should begin long before travel does. We oversee travel insurance, as well as performing risk assessments to ascertain whether a trip is safe and necessary. For example, if a client is sending staff to Paris next week, but the security situation in the city is uncertain, we will advise against or exercise caution around any travel in the region.

Risk assessments are also useful for determining the threat levels of things besides just terrorism, such as disease epidemics, political instability and natural disasters.

Educating Travellers

Beyond keeps up to date with events in all Foreign and Commonwealth Office risk destinations. We provide the latest information, as you need it and can assist with passport, visa and Esta applications. Our team can educate employees on the unique culture, political situation and overall safety of their destination, making sure they are prepared for their trip.

Travel Alert System

Real time alerts are sent directly to travellers affected by disruption, delay or safety threats. We contact employees directly to check they are safe, to warn of adverse security situations and advising them on what do next. We offer advice and make alternative arrangements and bookings.

Traveller Tracking

Know where your people are at all times, and contact them instantly through our tracking system. This helps clients keep tabs on where their team are in the world at any given time, which becomes especially important at times of crisis.

Escalation Measures & Continuity Plans

It is vital for employers to have a plan in place should a terrorist attack unfold, or a natural disaster occur. Continuity plans include protocols such as arranging alternative transportation and accommodation for stranded employees, and even having an evacuation plan in place. Our check-in and escalation service provides a robust response in the event of an emerging incident.
