Aer Lingus have announced two new direct flights from Dublin airport, which will begin mid 2019.
The airline, which last year reported a 15% rise in profits, have confirmed that they will be flying direct from the Irish hub to Montreal and Minneapolis–Saint Paul from next summer.
Passengers will enjoy their flight on board a new Airbus A321 neo long-range aircraft. Ticket prices will start from just $239 one way.
The two new destinations will add a 250,000 seats each year to Aer Lingus’ transatlantic network which already boasts 2.8m seats annually between Dublin and North America.
Montreal
Known as a city rich with French heritage, Montreal also has a strong Irish connection. In fact, the city’s coat of arms displays a clover in recognition of the large Irish community. In 2011 it was reported that approximately 430,000 Quebec residents boast Irish heritage and in 2017, the city welcomed 4,200 visitors from Ireland.
Minneapolis and St. Paul
The twin cities, as they are known are a popular destination for Irish business travellers. The Minneapolis-St. Paul region is home to no less than 17 Fortune 500 company HQs, including chain supermarkets Target and Best Buy as well as 3M and SuperValu. The cities are quickly gaining reputation as being at the centre of the fast growing technology industry also.
Dublin Airport
Dublin airport is also enjoying an exciting period of growth. Officials reported recently that they processed more than three million passengers in July 2018. This makes July the busiest month yet. The boosted footfall is being attributed to the increase in Trans-Atlantic routes.
Business travellers have reacted positively to the route announcement, with many praising the airport and airline for improving connectivity for corporate customers.
