Beyond Business Travel were delighted to attend a breakfast briefing with Belfast City Airport this morning. Officials took the opportunity to announce a plan for massive investment and upgrades to the Northern Ireland airport.
Bosses revealed that they will be investing £15 million and will soon open a new, upgraded departure lounge. There will also be improved security areas, hold baggage screening area and three new fire vehicles purchased.
The airport will boast 30% more retail space, resulting in extra food and shopping options for travellers. Washrooms will be expanded and fully refurbished, while passenger seating will be doubled.
Work will begin imminently and it is expected that all the improvements will be finished for October 2018.
The main design of the terminal work was carried out by renowned local firm, Todd Architects, while the construction will be taken on by H&J Martin.
Our MD Edel Doherty attended this morning’s briefing and afterwards stated: “This investment is excellent news for Belfast and for business travellers throughout Northern Ireland, the UK and beyond.”
“The improvements at Belfast City Airport and the recent expansion of their route network are of noted strategic importance to Ireland as an island economy, in terms of improved connectivity and experience.”
“As passenger numbers grow, it is imperative for local airports and airlines to invest in facilities and to deliver a quality experience for customers.”
“We are excited by today’s news and are looking forward to the unveiling of the new look terminal later this year.”
