As Aer Lingus announce two new North American routes from Dublin Airport, an economic report has predicted that the continued development of the airport as a Hub could add €18.6bn to Ireland’s GDP over the next 15 years.
Officials recently confirmed that the Irish airport experienced its busiest summer to date, processing more than three million passengers in July 2018. In 2017 more than 30 million passengers used one of the terminals, with 1.8 millions passing through on the way to a North American destination.
As Ireland’s largest airline announced flights to Minneapolis/St Paul and Montreal, EY launched a report which also found that investment in Dublin Airport as a Hub could generate an extra 33,950 jobs in the country.
The majority of the positions would start in the tourism sector, with the remainder coming from the aviation sector and other indirect roles. An additional 1200 construction jobs would be created while the Hub was being constructed.
It is also forecast that the Exchequer would benefit from an extra €6bn by 2033, from increases in a variety of taxes and levies.
Business Travellers – The Benefits
Already the benefits are clear for those travelling on work through Dublin Airport. Last month a new transfer hub opened close to Terminal Two and to date, reviews from corporate travellers appear to be glowing.
The three-story hub boasts a large number of airline information points, boarding card checkpoints, and immigration and customs facilities, making the transfer process much more streamlined.
Further investment in Hub status and in new routes will do much to improve connectivity and business links for Irish companies, allowing local companies the freedom to compete globally.
We work closely with Aer Lingus and all major airlines in Dublin Airport and can access negotiated rates and discounts for all clients.
