Emirates have announced that they are entering a codeshare arrangement with China Southern Airlines.
What is a codeshare agreement?
A codeshare agreement between a group of aviation bodies, is when two or more airlines partner to publish and market flights under their own airline designator and flight number. Usually the “administrating carrier” operates the flight, while all partner airlines sell seats from their own platforms, using their own details.
The word “code” refers to the identifying letters used in flight schedule. For example BB334 (flight number 334 operated by airline BB), would be sold by airline CC as CC908 and by DD as DD776. Airlines CC and DD are the “marketing airlines” while CC is the “administrating carrier”.
