Ryanair have cancelled up to 50 flights a day across their whole network for the next six weeks.
It has been reported that the disruption is occurring due to a staffing shortage in the airline. Insiders say Ryanair are having a hard time recruiting enough pilots to cover for current staff’s holiday entitlement.
Chief Executive Michael O’Leary called a hasty press conference on Monday, announcing that the rostering issue was leading to a one off spate of cancellations. He revealed that the mess will cost Ryanair about €25m (£22m) in compensation payouts and other costs.
Which Ryanair Flights Have Been Cancelled?
Ryanair have published long lists of flights which have been cancelled. Most European destinations have been hit. However officials note that less than 2% of flights have been affected.
The lists are organised on a daily basis, starting from today Tuesday 19th September, right through to 28th October.
Refunds, Re-Booking, Compensation
By following the link above, passengers will also be redirected to a page where they can apply for refunds. If you have booked onto one of the flights which have been cancelled, you can apply for a refund, or change your flight at no cost.
It has been reported today however, that while you can claim back the cost of your flight, Ryanair will not pay out other costs. They will not reimburse money lost on hotel bookings, event tickets or other travel arrangements. These should be claimed back from travel insurance, if at all.
