£180m Manchester Airport City Will Boost International Trade

The new look, newly refurbished and extended Manchester Airport, will boost international trade and the city’s reputation, according to a leading figure in Manchester’s hotel sector.

Along with the building of a new ‘super-terminal’, plans are underway to create an ‘Airport City District’ which will include new hotels, retail and restaurants in the region.

Last week the ball was set rolling, with the signing of deals with Holiday Inn and Ibis. Both will open 250+ bed hotels close to Terminal 2. It is expected that these and another two hotels will be built and open by 2021.

Adrian Ellis, chairman of the Manchester Hoteliers’ Association (MHA), told Insider Media that the redevelopment of Manchester Airport will boost visitor numbers to the city. He believes the changes will impact both the tourist and business travel trade and said:

“There’s no question that the growth expected at the Airport and Airport City will be beneficial for city centre hotels,” he said. “The new hotel district at Airport City will enhance Manchester’s reputation internationally – with the continued airport growth and increase in direct flights to China, India and America certain to boost the number of international visitors to Manchester.”
