Easyjet Launches ‘Hands Free’ Luggage in European Airports

Easyjet is introducing a new system, permitting business and leisure travellers to check in hand luggage at the airport, before boarding their plane.

Introducing Easyjet Hands Free

The initiative, called Easyjet ‘hands free’, will see passengers being offered the opportunity to rid themselves of bulky carry-ons, for a fee of £4 each way. The smaller items of luggage will be tagged as ‘priority’ baggage and will be transported to arrivals at the destination airport.

Easyjet claims that the cabin size luggage will be first out on baggage carousels and that waiting time will be kept as short as possible for waiting travellers.

Check-in staff will provide customers with small plastic bags for essential items, which will be carried onto the aircraft. Items purchased in the airport will also be permitted on the plane, while those with hands free passes will board straight after Easyjet Speedy Boarding passengers.

Easyjet Baggage Upgrade: What to Expect

Officials have revealed that Easyjet‘s new system will be rolled out in all their airports, except for Gatwick, London at this stage.

It has already proved popular with French travellers and 9,000 opted in within four weeks of the scheme beginning recently.

The airline’s chief revenue director Andrew Middleton said: “We’ve seen a fantastic response from customers upgrading to the ‘hands free’ experience and we’re confident once you go ‘hands free’ you’ll never want to drag cabin baggage through the airport again.”
