Stephen Hutchinson, Team Leader/Key Account Manager at Beyond Business Travel, recently travelled to Kuala Lumpur with Turkish Airlines. Here is his review of the trip.
Flying with Turkish Airlines Dublin
After a very eventful morning of getting from Belfast to Dublin (call myself a travel agent!) – I arrived to meet my group in Dublin Airport at the Turkish Airlines check-in. We got the royal treatment at check-in and then proceed to enjoy the refreshments in the DAA Airport Lounge. This treat can be pre-booked.
We had a tight connection in Istanbul airport (a 50 minute turnaround) so by the time we disembarked we where ready to board our next flight. I found the Economy flight service comfortable, but I would suggest customers pay a little extra for advance seating online as this can make all the difference.
Immediately on arriving into KUL airport, we could feel the humidity.
Staying in Kuala Lumpur
We were then met by Malaysian Tourist Board and proceeded to our accommodation for the trip, the Majestic Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.
The hotel encompasses includes the original Hotel Majestic building, which is documented as a national heritage site. This colonial structure was built in 1932 and became one of the great hotels of Kuala Lumpur in its time. An icon of Malaya’s boom years before World War II, the venue was the perfect place for glamorous social events, government receptions and the residence for prominent international visitors. The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur is positioned to share the glamour, heritage and success of its predecessor as a YTL Classic Hotel.
Things to See and Do in Kuala Lumpur
After having a quick turnaround we then went to Jalan Alor. This is an area with Turkish street food and cheap beer. One of the highlights from my trip.
The following day we took a ‘Hop-On-Hop-Off’ Tour around KL, stopping at:
• MATIC
• National Palace
• Dataran Merdeka
• Kl City Gallery
After the bus tour we then ventured into Central Market (no bargaining), then onto China Town (take 70% off everything!).
The following morning, we went for a panoramic view of the Famous Kuala Lumpur SkyBridge Petronas Twin Towers.
Later we then drove north to Putrajaya where we took in some more sights including:
• Mosque
• Perdana Putra, the Prime Minister’s Office
• Putrajaya Landmarks
• Millennium Monument
My Kuala Lumpur Experience
After a VERY busy time in KL we proceed to airport to be confirmed Business Class the whole way KUL-IST-DUB.
My experience was great we had an onboard chef (KUL-IST) and the crew where very focussed on making sure everyone was comfortable and enjoying their flight. We also got to experience the TK lounge (Star Alliance gold card can enter also) in IST. This is a MUST if you can fit it in. It’s the best lounge I have been in and has everything you can think off available.
Short hopper flight back to Dublin which again has an onboard chef in the business cabin. The IST-DUB flight does not offer a fully flat-bed but as it is only 4 hours it is more than comfortable in a full reclining seat.
My overall experience of Kuala Lumpur & Malaysia was great. I will be back to Asia as it’s given me the travelling bug for it now. With this experience, I can safely say I can offer our customers at Beyond Business Travel a range of Turkish Airlines tips, advice and recommendations to ensure they have as good a trip as me!
